Global Dating Insights reported that Omi says roughly 60% of its users have completed facial verification. MatchUp UK Ltd, the dating app’s parent company, describes the scan as optional because of privacy and legal considerations, although accounts without it may lose access to some features or receive a higher risk classification. Verified profiles receive a badge, according to Omi chief information security officer Oskar Levin.
Levin said human-operated scam accounts can spend days or weeks building trust and are harder to identify than bots with predictable behavior. He also said AI has made automated accounts more responsive. The New Straits Times reported police figures showing that 462 Malaysians lost RM32.7 million to scams linked to people met on dating platforms during the four years to June 2026. More than 70% of the victims were aged 21 to 40. The same reporting linked 85 cases and RM8.43 million in losses to people met through Omi. These totals describe reported cases, not the full prevalence of fraud on the platform.
A verification badge can make impersonation harder, but it cannot show whether a real person is honest. Omi’s own description of patient, human-operated scams makes that limit especially clear. The 60% completion rate, account restrictions and detection claims come from Omi and were not independently audited in the sources reviewed. The Malaysian loss figures were attributed to police data by the New Straits Times; they do not establish that Omi caused the scams or that every reported loss involved a verified account.
