Known, a dating app launched in San Francisco in spring 2026, gives users about one recommendation a week after a 15-minute voice survey. SFGATE reports that mutual matches have only two hours to chat before Known chooses a venue and makes a reservation for a $15 fee. The service recently expanded to San Diego.

SFGATE reports that Known, a dating app launched in San Francisco in spring 2026, is trying a deliberately slow alternative to swipe-based matching. The app collects a 15-minute voice survey, offers roughly one recommendation each week and limits conversation before a scheduled date. Known was founded by two former Stanford University students and recently expanded from San Francisco to San Diego, according to SFGATE.

Users answer questions about their past relationships and daily life in a voice survey. If both people accept a recommendation, Known chooses a venue, makes the reservation and charges $15. Matched users can chat only during the two hours before the date. Co-founder Celeste Amadon told SFGATE that the fee model is intended to reward the company for arranging meetings rather than keeping people inside the app. Known also published a 19-person “San Francisco’s Hot List.” Amadon said she selected it from submissions and her network after receiving more than 15,000 responses on X. Ten people on the initial list were founders and 13 worked in AI.

Known is betting that fewer recommendations and a scheduled meeting will get people to an actual date. Charging for the reservation gives the company a different immediate incentive from selling more swipes or longer chats. SFGATE did not report independent evidence about match quality, safety or relationship outcomes. SFGATE independently described the app and its expansion, but the onboarding process, response count and business rationale were provided by Known or its co-founder. The Hot List is a promotional selection, not a representative survey or independent ranking. The report provides no audited data on completed dates, user safety, match quality or relationship outcomes.
