Brazil Sugar-Dating Event Draws Fewer Men Than Planned

A Folha de S.Paulo reporter attended a MeuPatrocínio sugar-dating event in Balneário Camboriú and counted fewer than 20 men at its busiest point, below the roughly 30 anticipated by the organizer. Some women said tickets, travel and clothing left them out of pocket when the event did not meet their expectations.
Folha de S.Paulo sent a reporter to the second MeuPatrocínio party in Balneário Camboriú, Brazil, on August 27. The event was promoted as an exclusive in-person meeting for registered sugar daddies and sugar babies, with a planned ratio of at least three or four women for each man. The reporter counted fewer than 20 men at the event’s busiest point, compared with the roughly 30 expected under the organizer’s plan for about 150 attendees.
MeuPatrocínio told Folha that many men who bought tickets did not attend and that some women were also absent. Some women told the newspaper they had paid as much as R$800 for admission. Two attendees said they each spent R$500 on entry and more than R$1,500 on clothing required by the dress code. The platform said men’s packages reached R$20,000. Its official event page advertised premium drinks, privacy rules and an environment curated for real connections, but it did not promise that any attendee would find a partner.
The event sold a carefully staged chance to meet affluent partners, not a guaranteed connection. Attendees could know the price of admission in advance, but not how many suitable people would arrive or whether anyone would speak with them. The attendance count was the reporter’s observation at the busiest point, not an audited final total. Spending figures and disappointment were statements from individual women, while user totals, male ticket prices, the planned ratio and explanations for absences came from MeuPatrocínio. The report does not establish fraud or a legal finding against the organizer.
